Myasthenia Gravis (MG) is a neuromuscular autoimmune
disease that affects about 1 person in 5,000*. In Illinois there
are therefore approximately 2400 MG patients and in the Chicago
metropolitan area there are around 1600. The average annual
incidence is 7.4 per million people* so in Illinois there are about 90
new cases per year and in the Chicago metropolitan area there are
about 60. MG physiology is well
understood and there are many treatments but there is no cure.

MGFI it would be most appreciated. You can

Mary B.
Prokop
Research Grant
We are greatly indebted
to Mary B. Prokop, a Naperville homemaker and a
volunteer at Naperville's Family Services, who died
April 23, 2001 leaving a substantial bequest to MGFI.
Born in Ashland, Ill., Mrs. Prokop was the
personification of determination, said Virginia
Cunningham, a neighbor and friend of 27 years. "If she
wanted to do something, she simply went out and did
it," Cunningham said. "She was full of wisdom on how to
live your life, a very sweet lady." Mrs. Prokop
specified that her bequest was to be used for research.
With generous donors like Mary,
we are coming ever closer to improved treatments and perhaps,
someday, even a cure. For more, see
Prokop Bequest |
