Donations can be provided to the MGFI in many ways. Please call the office for details on any of the programs described below. Direct Contribution. If you would like to donate any amount to the MGFI please send your contribution to our office at the address below. Some employers have an incentive or "matching funds" program in which they contribute the same amount you contribute to any charity including MGFI. Check with your employer's Human Resource department. Or you can DONATE ONLINE using a credit card. Bequests. MGFI receives a substantial portion of its research funds from bequests made in wills. This is a great way to continue MG research with little financial impact to yourself. Investments can also be donated in bequests through Charitable Remainder Trusts and Pooled Income Funds. See Fidelity Investment's Charitable Gift Fund for example, or contact your stock broker.
eBay Sales. Donate all or a percentage of proceeds from items you sell on eBay to the MGFI. Just follow the instructions on eBay. [When on the eBay "Sell Your Item: Enter Pictures and Item Details" page under "Pricing and Duration", fill in the "Donate Percentage of Sale" line. To find the MGFI, you can enter keywords, MG, MGFI, myasthenia gravis or myasthenia.] Calendar Club. This is a drawing for prizes conducted every week at the MGFI office. You send in tickets annually and each ticket is eligible for all of the drawings whether you have won before or not. Each ticket is $12.00 and five can be obtained for $50.00. There is a final Grand Prize drawing for $500.00 and a Runner Up drawing for $100.00 held during the last week in December. If you sign up in December you are eligible for drawings all year long. Call the office today at 1-800-888-6208. Stock Donations. By donating stocks to the MGFI that have appreciated in value and were held more than a year, you can avoid paying capital gains tax. Of course, for equal amounts donated by stock or cash you are entitled to the same charitable deduction. MGFI, however, will receive more money from a stock donation for your same out of pocket expense.
Please consult with your financial, tax, or legal advisor for help with your particular donation and tax situation, as MGFI does not provide financial, tax, or legal advice.
