If you would like to volunteer to assist the activities of the MGFI we welcome your support. No experience is necessary. Contact the office for details. The following areas currently have need for volunteers: Carpool Drivers. Drivers are needed to take disabled MG patients to support group, annual and general meetings. Support Group Leaders. Arrange a meeting place in your area and moderate discussion among patients, family and friends on any aspect of MG. The MGFI provides advice for leaders on conducting support groups meetings, provides MG literature to hand out provides educational programs for support group leaders. It only takes about one day of your time every three months. The MGFI will notify prospective attendees. Office assistance. Answer the phone, file documents, answer e-mails, make copies, send out MG brochures on request, assist in mailings, etc. Spend time according to your time available, in Chicago, IL. Conquer Newsletter. Contribute articles for the newsletter or administer the mailing. Board Members. Help run the MGFI organization and help decide which research projects to support. There are committees for any interest including finance, fund raising, public relations, marketing/membership, personnel, newsletter, web support as well as research fund administration. The Board meets four to six times per year. Fundraising. We are always in need of new ideas and enthusiastic support of new fundraisers. Drop us a line with your ideas. Clinical Trials. Patients are always needed and are in short supply for studies of new MG treatments. If you would like to participate in one of the upcoming studies please contact our office. Go to Clinical Trials for help to see if a clinical trial is right for you. Nurses Advisory Board. A board of nurses interested in contributing to the care and cure of MG including medical professional education. If you are a registered nurse please call Ted Barillas at the MGFI office. Medical Advisory Board. The MGFI Medical Advisory Board consists of physicians specializing in the research and treatment of MG (and related diseases). They meet several times a year and discuss, Status of Medical Research Projects, Grant Management, Nurses Advisory Board, Physician Survey, etc. According to "Giving and Volunteering in the United States, 2001 Edition, INDEPENDENT SECTOR", 44% of American adults volunteer, on average spending over 3 hours weekly. |
